Update No 2

It's been a while since I've posted, so I'd like to say thank you to my readers for bearing with me!

July was a fairly hectic month for me. I had a lot of cakes to do at the start of July, including the Royal Baby Cake for Renshaw's competition.

I've also been on two camping trips. The first was a weekend in Kelso at the BMF motorbike rally with the Mr and my best friend. It was a great weekend and the weather was lovely! Last year was a washout so it was nice to see some sun!

The second was a trip to Bempton near Bridlington. The Mr and I went to RSPB Bempton Cliffs and got to see some puffins! We'd never seen puffins before, so I'm glad there were still a few around so late in the year.

In case you've somehow managed to miss it, the Royal Baby was also born in July. A few days later, Renshaw announced the results of their cake competition on their blog. I was bowled over when they contacted me to say that I'd won first prize! I didn't think for a moment when I entered that my cake would be good enough to win!

When I spoke to my Mum after I told her I'd won, she told me she'd sent the photo off to BBC News. I honestly thought she was joking until I received an email from BBC News... I was slightly mortified when I realised it was true! You can see it here...

I was really pleased to be featured on the Great British Chefs blog - thanks to Kavya Rajagopalan for featuring me! You can see Kavya's post here.

Renshaw's PR Team have also been in touch. They're trying to get an article in the Yorkshire Evening Post soon - it's slightly scary!

I've won a day at the Peggy Porschen Academy in London, with return train fare included.

I've chosen the Boutique Baking - Layer Cakes: Glorious Victoria and Dark Chocolate Truffle course - I can't wait to go! I'll learn to make two of Peggy Porschen's signature cakes - it's going to be a busy day!

Luckily, I've managed to get an open return ticket so I don't have to come back the same day (my outbound train departs from Leeds at 6am.....). My Dad is currently working in London, so it will be nice to see him and stay for the night before travelling home (with two large cakes in tow too!).

We've had some fabulous weather during July so I haven't really done much baking.

My little flat had new windows and loft /cavity wall insulation a few years ago courtesy of the council - it's lovely and toasty in winter but summer is a different story.... It's a top floor flat with large windows and it gets very hot! Using the oven makes it unbearable, so I've avoided it where possible.

I have done a few small things, including some chocolate cupcakes for a colleague. I had trouble with the ganache though - it kept melting too quickly!

Now the weather is cooling, I'm going to be back in the kitchen baking again. I've got a backlog of posts to get typed up too - they'll be up soon along with the return of Window Shopping Wednesday!

Thanks again for bearing with me!
