Update No 4

Hi everyone,

I've been a bit quiet on here lately so I thought I'd share a bit of what has been going on behind the scenes.

Earlier on in the month, I was asked to make a Camouflage birthday cake for the Mr's niece. After a bit of research into techniques, I had a go and the birthday girl was really pleased with it!

Since then, I received my latest delivery of "Cake Decorating" magazines, and one of the issues had instructions for camouflage cupcakes... If only it had arrived a few weeks earlier!

Peggy Porschen

Remember the Royal Baby Cake Competition held by Renshaw back in July? The course I'd chosen as my prize at the Peggy Porschen Academy finally came round and I had an absolutely fantastic time!

I learnt a lot from the course and I've come back with a bit of wish list! Hopefully, I'll be able to pick up the few things I want soon so I can practice the finishing techniques we were taught.

Renshaw were kind enough to get me an open return train ticket , so it was great to catch up with my Dad who currently works in London, and Mum who came down to visit too.

Window Shopping Wednesday

You've probably noticed the lack of Window Shopping Wednesday posts over the last few weeks. I've been having difficulty finding the time to write a mid-week post recently, so I won't be writing any more myself.

I'll leave the series open to guest posters though - get in touch if you want to take part!

Baking in general

Apart from the camouflage cake and Peggy Porschen, I haven't really baked since the Vanilla Sponge with Matcha buttercream. Things have been a bit tight recently, so spending extra on ingredients hasn't been a high priority.

I'm itching to get back into the kitchen as I've been watching so many baking shows - I hope I can get baking again soon!

Upcoming events (aka excuses to bake something)

Typically, with not really being able to bake recently, there are a few things coming up over the next few weeks. I'm going to have to use at least a few of them as an excuse ;)

Tomorrow, the Mr and I have been together for 7 whole years. We were hoping to go out for the day, but the "hurricane" that has been forecast might put a stop to that...

Thursday is Halloween.

Bonfire Night on the 5th of November.

Cakes and Bakes by Kate's first birthday on the 8th of November.

My getting-too-close-to-30th birthday on the 12th of November.

Social Network Events and Updates

I will be taking part in a twitter chat hosted by Renshaw (@RenshawBaking) and Ruth Clemens (@ThePinkWhisk) on Tuesday between 6:30 - 7:30pm. Ruth will be explaining how to make Halloween themed cake toppers, and we'll be tweeting with #RenshawCakeTalk. Come and join in if you're free!

For more information, see this post on Renshaw's blog.

For more updates from me, check out the social links near the top of the right hand sidebar.

While I'm on the topic of social networks, I'd like to thank +Dominick Costa and +Renee Shelton for their help with techniques for the camouflage cake. I really need to get more involved in the communities over on Google+...

I'll be posting about the Camouflage cake and Peggy Porschen soon, so keep your eye out for updates!

Who knows - I might get some baking done soon too :)
