About Me

I thought it's about time I had a page more about me, so here we go!

I was born and raised in Scotland, before moving to Leeds to go to University. I studied Japanese and Management, which included a year studying in Japan. I had a fantastic year and would love to go back!

Unfortunately, I didn't finish uni, but ended up working as an administrator in an Oil Lab, analysing construction equipment oil samples. I'm still in the same place now, albeit in a different role.

I love cooking, especially Japanese food, but I had rarely tried to bake anything.

I love animals, and have an ever expanding collection, which takes up a quite a bit of time! In the free time I manage to get, I like playing my piano and writing this blog.

I first attempted baking at around the age of 15, but ended up with a truly disastrous cake. As my Mum isn't really a baker, I assumed that I just didn't have the knack to bake, and never really tried again.

After watching the 3rd series of "The Great British Bake Off" in Autumn 2011, I was inspired to give baking another go!

I was pleasantly surprised with my first few bakes; which turned out fairly well; despite the earlier failure in my teens. I'm now wondering if the earlier failure may have been due to the dodgy thermostat on my Mum's oven......

I did some sugarcraft at school, making sugar flowers and cake toppers. I really enjoyed it, but haven't done anything like that since. However, I've recently subscribed to "My Cake Decorating" magazine to enhance my sugarcraft and decoration skills.

I've more recently started making cakes and cupcakes for friends and neighbours birthdays and parties.

I do enjoy my day job, but I'd love to have my own business one day - just baking and decorating cakes. I've looked at doing some courses at college, but these are all full time and I wouldn't be able to juggle them with work. Who knows what the future will hold though!

It looks like (for the time being at least) baking will just be a hobby!

I decided to start blogging to share my experiences and tips with other amateur bakers. I also hope to meet new people who love to bake!

I hope you enjoy following my journeys into baking, and I also hope that I can share my successes (and mistakes) with you all in an attempt to make us all better bakers!

I'd love for you to share your experiences and pictures. If you have any questions for me, or want to share your experiences and pictures, feel free to check my Google+ page here, or tweet me here.
